I know it's amazing isn't it? There's just so MUCH... and how did I manage to get it all into that little station Wagon!

Pic1: #1 Simplicity Sewing Book ($1), #2 The New World Of Needlepoint by Lisbeth Perrone ($1.50), #3 Foods Of The World: Pacific and Southeast Asian Cooking by Time-Life ($1), #4 Japanese Ink-Painting by Ryukyu Saito (BFF). Pic2: some vintage crochet and doll making mags, an issue of Vogue Patterns, 2 issues of Threads and an issue of CraftStylish (all from BFF).

Pic1: #1 Great Expectations by Charles Dickens (.19 cents!), #2 Emma by Jane Austen (.75 cents), #3 Witchcraft, The Sixth Sense by Justine Glass (BFF), #4 Jambalaya: The Natural Woman's Book by Luisah Teish (BFF). Pic2: #1 Aunt Jane's Nieces At Millville by Edith Van Dyke (BFF), #2 The Forty-Five Guardsmen by Alexandre Dumas (BFF), #3 Joan of Arc/The English Mail Coach by De Quincey (BFF), #4 Jane Seymour's Guide To Romantic Living by Jane Seymour ($1).

Pic1: #1 Jude the Obscure by Thomas Hardy ($1), #2 Persuasion by Jane Austen ($1), #3 The Republic of Pirates by Colin Woodard (BFF), #4 Jane and The Genius of The Place by Stephanie Barron ($1). Pic2: #1 Romantic Poets by Various ($2), #2 Etiquette by Emily Post (BFF), #3 Every Girls Adventure Stories by various ($1) #4 Vicar of Wakefield by Oliver Goldsmith (BFF).

Pic1: #1 The Complete Humorous Sketches and Tales of Mark Twain by Mark Twain ($1), #2 Marie Antoinette by Stefan Zweig (BFF), #3 A Christmas Carol and Other Stories by Charles Dickens ($1.50), #4 Works of Charles Dickens by Charles Dickens ($1). Pic2: #1 The Danger Mark by Robert W. Chambers (BFF), #2 Nancy Stair by Elinor Macartney Lane (BFF), #3 Les Miserables by Victor Hugo (BFF), #4 Treasure Island by Robert Lewis Stevenson (BFF).

I had to get this suitcase! It was $4 if I remember right and has some cleanable scuffs on it. I see some from time to time but they are always in HORRIBLE shape. I felt it was worth it for one this good. The brown sketchers were $3 I think and i bought them just because I had to have some muddy weather shoes, I had already ruined one pair of my shoes just going out to my car one day while I was at the BFF's so I bought these clod hoppers. The black boots were $3 from a thrift store. They are all leather, even the soles and heel wrap. High quality boots but no idea what brand. They zip up the side but have real working button and strap Victorian style over the front. I love them! The three scarves in the next photo were all about $1 or $1.50 at thrift stores. I like the thin polka dot one, and the holly for Xmas. You can't really see it, but the gold circles on the top scarf have anchors and ships wheels in them so it was Sailor-ish!

Bottles of water? I know! lol. These are Evian bottles designed by Christian Lacroix. I bought one at Target a while back because it was so pretty, on sale it was $3, I think the original was between $8-6. I found these at a Big Lots for $1 each. They will look so pretty in front of the window in my kitchen. The paper plates and Halloween napkins I got for under a dollar marked down 50% after Halloween at Target. I like the skulls and thistles (hubby is Scottish) and They are always too expensive to use for parties when they are full price... now I won't have to wince every time someone wipes their mouth! The cello treat bags with the skulls were $1 if I remember right. I figured they would be good for product wrapping for the shop... I think I bought two sets. In the next photo is some of the bar ware I found. The milk glass Fire King pan is 10X6 and has no chips or cracks. I think it was $2. The Oak Tree design poultry platter was $3. I think the huge Heineken mug was $3, the red bottom Bass glass was $1.50 and the Shiner mug was $2. I also found a Salem, MA and a Scottish Piper shot glass for .50 each. The American Museum of Natural History mug was $1.

The two small covered silver dishes were from the BFF as was the silver and blue velvet baby album (new). The two handled cup with silver design, the covered silver butter dish with the glass dish inside, the silver cream and sugar set and the Greek style silver pitcher were all part of the same lot I bought at my first auction for $7. I on;y wanted the pitcher but they sold it all together. There is also a round child's dish (normal metal) and an oval silver platter (small) that aren't pictured. We are trying to move away from using plastic in the kitchen, so when I see mint condition glassware with lids I buy it if I like the color/patterns. The two white dishes with clear lids were $3 and $4 at ta thrift store, the blue dish with the white lid was $3. The Dewar's Scotch pitcher was $3 and the Pottery Barn squirrel on the log salt and pepper shakers in a metallic bronze sort of color were new but I paid $1.50 for the set at the thrift store... everything else was from the thrift store too.

The BFF for some reason had piles of these shorts and she gave me about 5 pairs to use for material for sewing. I got the bright green shrug and the purple tank at a thrift store for about $1.50.

The Glenlivet mirror is probably the most expensive thing I' bought aside from my new from the store winter coat. lol. It was $10. You rarely see bar signs at the thrift stores and since the plaid in the back is close to the Kerr family Tartan I decided to get it, I loved the thistle too. I figured if the hubby didn't REALLY want it for his basement bar when he saw it, then one of our good friends Ryan, who is an avid Glenlivet fan would want it for sure. I immediately thought of him when I saw it and we did give it to him, he loved it! The picnic basket and all it's contents were from the BFF as well as about 500 sheets of Ivy tissue paper she got at an auction. I use it when I wrap items for shipping so that is a good gift! I bought the two sheets of white velvet flocked silver scrapbook paper for $1.20 each marked down from like $4 at Hobby Lobby. I'll use it for craft projects.

One of the two toiles above came from the BFF, the rest of the fabric shown was bought from the clearance section of JoAnn's I think it all cost me about $15. The vintage doll pattern booklets and the crochet mags were free from the BFF.

The stained glass painting pattern books and paint tubes were free from the BFF as were all of the iron on letters and designs.

The sailor tie, black felt scarf, red and black knit scarf, the red tartan show laces and the mustard and aqua rose fabric were all free from the BFF. Adding In Another Blog

Some of you know that I have had a Navy Wife blog running on the side via another account for a while now. It's become where I just can't keep up with it as a separate entity and I am going to combine it into this blog. You'll be able to find some of the posts from that blog in "The Navy and US Military" section of this blog starting next week. Also from now on if I have a military related post, it will show up here instead of over there.

Thrifted Stuff: Trip to New York Part 1

Posted by Jenny Kerr On 11/29/2009 07:57:00 PM 0 comments

I had a grand scheme of how to organize the thrifted stuff posts that I have to make from my trips, but once I finally started cropping photos and saw how much stuff there was, I've sort of abandoned any thought of organization. There is just so much stuff, mostly from my BFF cleaning out part of her craft room!! lol. Here is the first group of pictures with descriptions as best I can remember them.

Probably 10 or 15 yards each of the gold and blue piping/cording Free from BFF, she had huge spools of it. I can't remember if I bought this toile or if she gave it to me... I have three pieces of toile in my pile and she gave me some and I bought some... I think this piece was the $2 piece from the thrift store I bought... It's beautiful either way. 7 pillow cases in the next pic are all from thrift stores, they range in price from 29 cents to $1. These are going to be great for sewing. The two embossed red candles are beautiful. I love pretty candles but can't afford them. At $2.50 each these were still on the pricey side for ME, but far better than the $12 each that Hobby Lobby originally was asking for them.

The first three velvet ribbons shown I bought on clearance at Hobby Lobby, I think the most expensive was 2.57 for over 1/2 of a roll, the stuff is normally about $3 a yard so quite a deal for me, I use a lot of trim. The next three spools of velvet were free from the BFF, she had scored a bunch of stuff from an auction for a flower shop. The woven European ribbon spool was free from the BFF and is cool vintage, also the mound of gray faux fir trim was free from the BFF.

All of the trim scraps in this first image are free from the BFF, the red and blue metallic cord was 50 cents each from the Walmart discount aisle. All of the rolls of lace pictured in the second image were free from BFF.

Stamps and embroidery hoops all free from the BFF. The vintage eyelet barrettes, damask design pens, black and white baskets and the embroidery wax are from the BFF for FREEbies! The wood K I got at ... JoAnn's I think it was for $1.

The card of loose needles, the pins, the labels, vintage pipe cleaners and bra hooks are free from BFF... the new needle card was a dollar, the vintage hooks and eyes and the buckle were approx 75 cents at the thrift store. All of the beads in the second image were free from the BFF.

Buttons free from BFF!

I think these two bags of buttons I bought myself at the thrift store for under $1 for the sets.

More free buttons from the BFF!

LOTS more free buttons from the BFF! I've never had so many buttons!

The BFF uses the High quality Coats & Clark embroidery thread for all of her sewing so she cleared out all of her normal thread and gave it to me because I use whatever I can find. LOL... I'm not picky! All of the above big spools were free from her. All of the smaller spools below are also from her except for the one spool of silver thread, I bought that on clearance for $1.

The rainbow trim scraps, doll pieces and mouse pad were free from the BFF. The ironing board cover I bought for $1 and the sidewinder bobbin winder isn't something I would normally buy, but Walmart had it on clearance for $5 so I got one!
More treasures to come so keep watching!

5,000 Miles In A Month... NICE!

Posted by Jenny Kerr On 11/29/2009 04:42:00 PM 0 comments
We have managed to put over 5,000 miles on the Jetta since we bought it a month ago. So far it is still going strong and we still love it. We decided to name it "Joseph BLUE Polaski". LMAO As in, "You're my Boy Blue!" in old school. I've always wanted a smallish station wagon so I finally got one, and it's the Navy blue color we wanted and everything.

Being home is strange. Little things you didn't realize you missed... like double-ply cottonelle and a full height toilet! Rest stops and hotel rooms always have cheap toilet paper and low toilets. I am so glad to be home, I never really thought I'd say that, because I love to travel, but it has been quite a relief to be off the road and in my own bed finally. I've sat here today not doing much of anything really. After I got home from driving hubby to the airport I went right back to sleep. The last couple days that we've spent in the car we were listening to the audio book of The Lady and The Unicorn, I am guessing this is why I dreamt of painters and looms. LOL.

My house is a disaster. I still have the remnants of painting and sorting from two months ago when I left rather abruptly laying around the place. On top of that is not only all the stuff I brought home THIS trip, but all the stuff that I brought home LAST trip when I was only home for a day or two before getting on the road again. Now I am tasked with the job of organizing and packing up the house for a move that I'm not even sure EXACTLY when it's going to take place. Could be a week, 2 weeks or a month. I can see that once again getting to have the place decorated and a tree up for the holidays is bust. lol ONE year I fucking swear I will get to have my antique and handmade ornaments on a damn TREE! LOL.

Dogs are glad to be here, Hubby can't wait to come back and some how I still have tomatoes growing in the side yard. I thought they were finished MONTHS ago. Things are moving along in the Etsy store and hopefully if I can start making some decent headway with the packing and sorting I will list some more items. I am liking this Stamps.com scale system, I can't get it to do the delivery confirmation from here, but that's okay, I at least like knowing what it is gonna cost me to ship up front. I can't wait to get settled and really get down to business with the Etsy and stuff... I miss sewing. I did do a couple of things this past couple months I've been away, but not a ton. I'll post what I've made later. Right now I'm just trying to wrap my head around everything that is going on and everything that I have to do still. I guess my first order of business should be to crop the photos on my camera and get that card cleared off so I can take some more! Guess I'll go do that now.

I am 32 Today

Yes, I am a very old woman! lol.

We aren't really doing much of anything for my birthday, going out to eat at the Irish Lion in Bloomington later tonight. Today we are just going to try to winterize the house some before hubby has to leave tomorrow to go back to the Navy. They have decided that hubby doesn't need these two schools after all and he will be leaving Norfolk in about two weeks to come back home to me! We will be immediately moving to Chicago! He figures he should have about 20 days of leave he can take, that should give us enough time to pack up the house, move it and unpack again. I will be sad to not have my Xmas here in our house, but I will be very glad to finally be able to move on with my life and not be stuck here alone any more! This will also allow us better conditions for trying to make babies, lol... The results have been negative so far, but we only get a day or two here and there together every couple of months, so that's not surprising really.

We are also finally moving into the modern world and have gotten a Wii. I'm usually against video games, but since the Wii came out I've been wanting one. All of the educational and fitness related activities you can do with it! Instead of turning your kids into mindless blobs it can help them learn and keep them in shape, even during blistering winters. Which, that is why we have finally gotten one. The Chicago winters are bad and since we will be there for most of it, we'll have to find stuff to do inside together... haha I know there is always THAT, lol, but you have to stop at some point! haha Now we can play Trivial Pursuit, Balls of Fury Ping Pong, Ski Ball (Trab's favorite) and more! We asked my dad to get me the Wii and needed accessories for Xmas so he paid for what we bought last night. The Wii console, the charging station, a black nunchuck, Trivial Pursuit and a hot pink controller. Today for my Xmas from him, Trab is going to buy the pink nunchuck and the Wii Fit Plus Bundle with The Biggest Loser game. We also got a couple of cheap pre-used games last night that we paid for ourselves; Balls of Fury Ping Pong, Game Party and Trauma Center: New Blood. Trab is probably going to be getting some of the WWII games, Hell's Kitchen, Iron Chef America and Cook Or Be Cooked from me for Xmas. lol.

I'm very excited that we will have a whole slew of new activities to share other than watching TV or playing Risk... although I do have to master the rules for our new Axis & Allies game. LOL

Sorry I Missed Veteran's Day

I was offline pretty much for the last several weeks and I missed posting about Veteran's Day. I hate that I missed it and wanted to make sure that I posted a little something to remind all of you to think those who have and currently are serving in the U.S. Military.

Sorry I've Been Away So Long & A Tardy Thank You

I have not been home in about a month, and that was only for one day. I went to see hubby in Pensacola, then hubby and I came home for a day and were off to New York. He caught a flight in Buffalo to Norfolk where he's at his next level of school. I remained behind and spent a few weeks at my BFF's house. I got really sick and missed my hubby and decided to leave 10 days earlier than planned. I packed up all of the cool thrifted stuff and the MOUNTAIN of things she gave me (yay) and headed out to Virginia Beach.I've been here since Monday and I already feel better... maybe it was the fresh air of traveling or having the hubs to take care of me, but I think I'll be well in a matter of days.

I had a lot of fun with the BFF, but I haven't crafted or anything in WEEKS. I haven't been able to blog like normal and I think I've lost almost all of my subscribers. I've also realized that I need to change my blog's name... not sure what to call it though, but there seem to be about 10 other Kerr Family Blogs out there. lol.The hubby and I have a little efficiency apt/room at a decent little hotel. It's very clean and the dogs like it. Right now the room is a disaster of luggage and all my "new" stuff. I've repacked a bunch of it an managed to eliminate 2 small boxes, some misc items and a big bag. Not that I threw stuff away, but I repacked and organized and managed to compress shit even more than it was. I am taking photos as I go and will be able to make Thrifting posts when I get home. I haven't photographed all of the things I bought in FL yet, so that stuff will be later in coming, it's all at home right now... but it will all be posted probably the week after Thanksgiving.

I got to go to my first live auction with the BFF, I played Wii for the first time, and went to a Fashion bug for the first time. I bought a rad new coat at the FB too! Even thought I left my house in a half painted cold mess, I can't wait to get back home... I wish I could have more than a weekend at home with hubby this month, but I'll take what I can get and be glad that I have 10 days with him here. We ate at Fudrucker's yesterday, it's so good and we used to love to go there when we lived here. *sigh* One day my life will be back to normal and not spread out all over the country! hahahaha I have driven more in teh past month and 1/2 than I have in my entire life!

I can't remember if I Thanked Angela for my Halloween surprise box or not, but I meant to. I am sorry I am so late with posting about it, but I loved everything you sent, the box even SMELLED good! lol. Thank you so much!
